Scandinavia House exteriorScandinavia House is one of New York City's most exciting event venues, offering spaces for banquets, receptions, conferences, business meetings, performances, and film screenings. Designed by the celebrated American architect James Stewart Polshek, Scandinavia House is a stunning modern building that puts Scandinavian culture on display with design materials and furnishings representing the five Nordic countries. Detailed with exquisite care, the cultural center reflects Scandinavia's reputation for excellent craftsmanship and sophisticated design.

The building is located in mid-town Manhattan on Park Avenue between 37th and 38th Streets. It is close to major New York landmarks: the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the New York Public Library, and the United Nations headquarters. It is also conveniently close to both Grand Central Station and Pennsylvania Station. If your guests are visiting from outside the New York area, we have close working relationships with several nearby hotels.

Scandinavia House has a list of preferred caterers including Smörgås Chef, which manages a full service restaurant on our main floor. Alternative caterers must be cleared with Scandinavia House management in advance and follow all of the organization’s guidelines, and may be subject to an additional fee. Banquet Rooms and Presentation Facilities

Lower Level

Victor Borge Hall combines the best in Scandinavian design with state-of-the-art technology. The 168-seat auditorium is perfect for lectures, films, concerts, performances, business meetings and symposia. The hall is equipped with 35 mm film projectors with Dolby Surround Sound, digital projection capability and digital recording equipment for concerts, performances and presentations.

A spacious gallery adjacent to the room is ideal for small receptions before or after your event, and a green room is available for use by performers and presenters.

2nd Floor

Volvo Hall is a bright, dramatic space with glass walls to its east and west overlooking Park Avenue. An adjoining garden terrace with quartzite stone and wood details is an ideal setting for outdoor receptions and meeting breaks. Volvo Hall can accommodate up to 220 guests for receptions and 100 for seated dining and has facilities for business presentations and conferences. The hall is also ideal for wedding receptions, corporate presentations, fashion shows, luncheons, or as a showroom space for merchandisers.

Main Floor

The F. Donald Kenney Reception Area and Taplin Café a 2,200 sq ft space is on the main level of Scandinavia House, on Park Avenue. Our full-service restaurant, Smörgås Chef, manages the space which can accommodate an evening reception or seated dinner.

3rd Floor

3rd Floor Galleries. Treat guests at your next event to world-class exhibitions of the best Scandinavian painting, sculpture, photography, and design. Our gallery, an expansive 1,800 square foot space with high ceilings and a polished spruce floor is a stylish setting for receptions of up to 150.

4th Floor

The Halldór Laxness Library is furnished in classic Scandinavian design, and can accommodate meetings of up to 20 people. Large windows overlook Park Avenue, offering an excellent vista of New York landmarks. Internet access is available and a small reading area is adjacent to the main part of the room.

Additional Conference and Meeting Rooms

Scandinavia House has a number of additional conference and meeting rooms that can accommodate groups as large as 30 or as few as 8. Equipped with presentation equipment, telephone, and computer access as well as the finest in Scandinavian furniture, these rooms are perfect for smaller seminars, meetings and presentations.
