Open House New York Weekend returns on October 19-20! Scandinavia House will again be open for the weekend, enabling access to various floors in our Polshek Partnership-designed space, which opened in 2000. Visitors will be able to explore spaces including the lower-level Victor Borge Hall, dedicated to the legendary Danish entertainer, where ASF features films, concerts, and performing arts; the second floor Volvo Hall event and reception space; the Heimbold Family Children’s Playing and Learning Center, an interactive space for children; the Halldór Laxness Library; and the third-floor gallery, which features exhibitions celebrating Scandinavian artists.

This year, OHNY will coincide with the recent opening of our new exhibition Cutting Edges: Nordic Concrete Art from the Erling Neby Collection. On view from October 12, 2019 through February 15, 2020, this exhibition features over 30 works from major Nordic Concrete artists from the years after World War II and continuing through today, including key works in painting, graphics, and sculpture by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway.

For Open House Weekend, the Gallery will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 6 PM. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a related self-led art activity during select hours in Volvo Hall.

Please note that spaces will have limited access during special events. Volvo Hall will be closed between 12:30 to 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 19; it will otherwise be open with a self-guided art activity. The lower-level Victor Borge Hall will be closed all day Saturday, and before 3 PM on Sunday. From 12 to 2 PM on Saturday, an event for children will be taking place in the 4th Floor Children’s Playing and Learning Center; participation is limited to ticket holders.
