Summer of ‘92 is an endearing comedy based on the true story of Denmark’s against-the-odds victory in the 1992 European Football Championships.
Richard Møller Nielsen (Ulrich Thomsen), the coach of the Danish national soccer team, is fighting an uphill battle with a team that refuses to play by his rules. No one understands his philosophy—not the players, not the press—and he soon becomes a national laughingstock.
Discouraged after failing to qualify for the European Football Championship, the players decide to take the summer off: no exercise, no training, and no soccer. But when war-torn Yugoslavia is forced to forfeit its place, the Danes suddenly find themselves wrenched back into the tournament, and only a week away from facing some of the world’s best teams.

About the director
Danish director Kasper Barfoed was born in Copenhagen in 1972 where he began his career as a child actor, performing in the stage musical version of Oliver Twist and in Liv Ullmann’s directorial debut Sofie.
Barfoed later moved behind the camera, directing commercials and second unit directing on feature films. His award-winning short, The Performance, led to his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the children’s film My Sister’s Kids in Egypt (one of the highest grossing Danish films of that decade). In 2008, he directed The Candidate starring Nikolaj Lie Kaas, a thriller which played at numerous international festivals.
