from the Nordic countries, browse through books and journals, or
look up travel destinations and genealogical records in the
Halldór Laxness Library, named in honor of the 1955 Nobel
laureate from Iceland. Furnished in classic Scandinavian design
with huge windows overlooking Park Avenue, The Halldór
Laxness Library houses information on the Nordic nations and their
influence on America and the world.
Resource materials include books, scholarly journals,
newspapers, magazines, videos and computerized data including an
extensive database of Nordic genealogical information. It also
contains computer terminals that provide access to Scandinavian
sites on the internet.
Hours: Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday
12:00-5:00pm

Special Collections
The Library includes two major series of publications by The
American-Scandinavian Foundation:
- Books published by The American-Scandinavian
Foundation from 1914- 1980
- Scandinavian Review: bound volumes of the journal of The
American-Scandinavian Foundation, from 1912 to present
Periodicals
An extensive collection of periodicals from and about the Nordic
countries is available.
Funds for the establishment of the library were raised by a
consortium of corporations and individuals in Iceland. At their
request, the Library was named in honor of Halldór Laxness,
Iceland's Nobel Laureate in Literature.
