Celebrate contemporary Nordic filmmaking with us from home by catching some of the best new films in weekend sessions of contemporary feature films and documentaries. The ninth session of the series from April 23-29 features the film Games People Play /Seurapeli (Finland\, 2020; dir. Jenni Toivoniemi). \nA comedy about the tragedy of remaining forever young\, Games People Play takes place over the course of a nostalgic weekend\, when an old group of friends gathers to celebrate Mitzi’s birthday at an idyllic seaside villa — just as they did as teenagers. But the party gets off to a bad start when it turns out that the birthday girl isn’t so happy about the surprise; and with the addition of a new boyfriend in the group\, who happens to be a Swedish Hollywood star. As familiar surroundings and old rituals get to the core of the group\, other revelations surface that make them reassess both their past and present. DESCRIPTION:WED—April 28—1 PM (ET) \n*This event will take place online as a Virtual Panel.* \nOn April 28\, please join ASF for a virtual round-table discussion on Indigenous Activism in the Nordic Countries\, with Sámi artist Sofia Jannok\, Inuk anthropologist and Indigenous rights activist Qivioq Nivi Løvstrøm\, & Sámi activist Beaska Niilas\, moderated by Iñupiaq Inuit wildlife and conservation biologist Victoria Qutuuq Buschman.  In their discussion\, the panelists will look at what comprises activism in the Nordic countries and the issues being addressed. \nThey will also look at common misconceptions about Indigenous peoples and their rights\, how Indigenous activists today are engaging with climate change\, and how others can best support activism in the Arctic countries. \nThe event will take place via Zoom webinar; please register at the link above. DESCRIPTION:WED—FEBRUARY 10 THROUGH WED—APRIL 28\nWEDNESDAYS—6:30–8:35 PM\n$749 \n*This program will take place as remote learning.* \nRemote LearningScandinavia House promotes the importance of language learning in exploring Nordic culture through classes offered by NYU’s Department of Foreign Languages\, Translation\, and Interpreting. \nThis course is designed for intermediate Norwegian language learners who have completed Norwegian III/SCAN1-CE9303 at NYUSPS or the equivalent. Expand and refine your intermediate speaking\, reading\, and writing skills\, which will enable grammatically correct conversations and language structure and further develop your confidence in speaking Norwegian. \nClasses will take place online as remote learning.
