DESCRIPTION:Are your pockets full of stones after a day of nature adventure? Stones can be found anywhere and everywhere: the woods\, the playground\, at the beach and river streams. Playing with stones\, and making a mark\, are ageless and irresistible tactile activities! In this workshop\, we will experiment with shapes\, lines and space\, painting and drawing on our favorite stones. Children can explore various painting and drawing techniques on the tactile stone surface; and then share your creations with us by tagging #ScanHouse on Instagram! \nThis event will take place as a virtual premiere at 10 AM ET on October 20 via YouTube and Facebook. DESCRIPTION:“Strange\, surprising and increasingly unnerving” (THR) — see the new film Disco (Norway\, 2019; dir. Jorunn Myklebust Syversen) in New Nordic Cinema at Scandinavia House! \nNineteen-year-old Mirjam (Josefine Frida Pettersen) is the step-daughter of a charismatic pastor of an evangelical movement called The Freedom. As a world champion in disco freestyle dancing as well as the leader of the youth group in the congregation\, Mirjam is the pride of the church — until a collapse onstage makes her begin to question her faith. Her family’s solution is for her to become a better believer; though Mirjam tries\, her body continues to fail her. Frustrated by the feeling of not being seen\, Mirjam finds herself drawn to a stricter\, more conservative congregation; but will her faith provide her with the answers she needs? (94 min. In Norwegian with English subtitles) \n“As beautiful and heartbreaking as watching a dancer pirouette into an abyss”—Film Threat  \nFilm screenings will take place as a 3 PM matinee and 7 PM evening showing. Tickets to this event must be purchased in advance online at the link above; film screenings will take place in Victor Borge Hall. All attendees are required to present proof of vaccination upon arrival in compliance with New York State government; read more here. She lives in Oslo and works in the field of film and video art\, photography\, and installations. \nShe made her feature debut in 2017 with The Tree Feller starring Anders Baasmo Christiansen. Disco is her second feature.
