SUMMARY:NEW YORK BALTIC FILM FESTIVAL 2024

In-person screenings and events will take place November 6-10 at Scandinavia House in New York. The online version will once again be available to viewers across the U.S. via the Elevent streaming platform from November 8–17. \nThe full festival lineup will be announced in late September. Early Bird Passes are on sale beginning June 15 through August 31\, 2024; discounts are offered for in-person passes ($100/$70 ASF Members; regular $125/$95 ASF Members); VIP packages ($350\, regular $425); and 5-Film Packages ($50/$30 ASF Members; regular $60/$40 ASF Members). \nThis year’s festival will feature films exploring Baltic connections to other cultures\, as well as the many worlds that exist within Baltic societies. ASF Program Manager & NYBFF Co-Curator Kyle Reinhart states\, “While we do not always know what tomorrow will bring\, cinema’s ability to show the humanity and passion of our fellow man — whether through the hopes and dreams of individuals and communities\, or the shared struggles of our neighbors — introduces us to new ideas and perspectives\, and ignites our imaginations.” \nAs we celebrate the continued global success of Baltic films at major international film festivals\, we invite you to join us at Scandinavia House and see the world through Baltic eyes. \n\n\nFor program announcements\, please subscribe to the festival newsletter and Scandinavia House newsletter. For more immediate updates\, follow NYBFF on Instagram and Facebook.

SUMMARY:OPENING NIGHT: LIFE AND LOVE | NYBFF
DESCRIPTION:The 7th Annual New York Baltic Film Festival (NYBFF) presented by Scandinavia House: The Nordic Center in America returns this November with the best new films from the Baltic region! The festival kicks off on Wednesday\, November 6\, with the U.S. premiere of Life and Love /  Elu ja armastus (dir. Helen Takkin\, Estonia\, 2024). \nSet during the Great Depression in 1933\, this compelling drama follows Irma\, a young woman who leaves her rural home to pursue a writing career in the city. There\, she becomes entangled with her boss at a local print shop\, who convinces her to become a live-in maid while pursuing her romantically. Though Irma is at first captivated by his charm and lavish lifestyle\, his toxic behavior and power games soon draw her into a web of manipulation. Meanwhile\, as political tensions rise within the city around them\, Irma and her loved ones soon learn that romantic illusions come with a very high price. \nThe film will rescreen in NYBFF on Saturday\, November 9. It will also screen virtually from November 10-17. \nPurchase Tickets
