SUMMARY:IMPRESSIONS: BOTANICAL RELIEF PRINTING | CARVED AND PRESSED WITH MARGRETHE AANESTAD
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of botanical relief printing with artist Margrethe Aanestad! This class will explore the creative process of coating plant parts in ink and pressing them onto paper or fabric\, which results in a direct\, mirrored and highly detailed impression of the leaf’s organic veins and edges. After learning about the technique\, we’ll experiment and create our own artworks. \nThis workshop is part of a 3-session series\, “Impressions: Carved & Pressed\,” focused on printmaking using various mediums. The class may be experienced individually or as part of a progression\, with 3-session bundles available. All materials are provided. No prior experience is required. SUMMARY:BELOVED | SCREENING & FILM TALK: FILMS FROM THE FJORDS
DESCRIPTION:“A love story full of the unspoken\, tenderness\, and mystery” — On November 12\, Scandinavia House presents a special screening to wrap up our Films From the Fjords series: the sparse\, beautifully-rendered drama Beloved. Pre-reception sponsored by the Norwegian Consulate General begins at 6 pm. \nIn a small coastal town\, Asle and Gerd find each other in a tavern and become parents to a boy\, building a seemingly-idyllic life in the crook of the fjord. But soon enough\, their perfect love is put to test. Asle\, a sailor\, is inexorably drawn by the call of the sea\, leaving Gerd alone with the child as distance grows between them. Told in Fosse’s minimalist style\, through silence\, glances and landscape\, the story rests on deep compassion for three lives\, and asks how much distance love can endure before it breaks. \n\nDirected by internationally acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Erik Poppe (U-July 22\, 2018; Quisling\, 2024)\, BELOVED is an intimate relationship drama based on the only original screenplay by 2023 Nobel Prize-winning author Jon Fosse\, whose minimalist and deeply human language shapes a story of love\, distance and emotional rupture. Poppe’s precise visual storytelling and profound sensitivity to human vulnerability elevate the narrative into a universal exploration of intimacy\, absence and the fragile architecture of family life. The film stars Leo Magnus de la Nuez (Beforeigners\, 2019) and Kristi-Helene Giæver Engeberg (War Sailor\, 2022). \n\nPurchase Tickets
