SUMMARY:HOW TO DIVORCE DURING THE WAR | NORDIC & BALTIC OSCAR CONTENDERS
DESCRIPTION:On December 3\, Scandinavia House presents a special screening featuring Lithuania’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards: the “smart\, dryly humorous” and widely lauded How to Divorce During the War. \nVilnius\, 2022. High-flying executive Marija chooses the worst possible moment to inform her husband Vytas she wants a divorce: just one day before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Suddenly the couple must navigate separating in the middle of a refugee and mid-life crisis. As the reason for their divorce gradually becomes clear\, the dissolution of the marriage and the turmoil of world events creates conflicts and opportunities for them both—and for their ever-observant young daughter. Packed with surprises along with much heartache and soul searching\, Andrius Blaževičius’ nuanced and timely family drama skillfully depicts the fallout of a marriage against the backdrop of extraordinary events with humor and compassion. \n“A subtly searing comedy… both empathetic and surgical.” (Variety) \nPurchase Tickets
