Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason visits Scandinavia House for an intimate discussion of his work, focusing on how you can address contemporary societal issues through direct activism as well as the written word.

In this discussion he will address how his work weaves together art together with contemporary social issues. How you can address or interact with your society through various forms? Through poetry? Through non-fiction? Through science fiction or film? Through direct activism?

 

Andri has written novels, poetry, plays, short stories, essays, and more. He is the co-director of the documentary film Dreamland. He has won the Icelandic Literary Award in all categories—fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature. His book LoveStar received the Philip K. Dick honorary mention and won the Grand Prix de Imaginaire in 2016, one the highest sci-fi awards in France.His most recent book Tímakistan won the Icelandic literary Award and is nominated for the Nordic Council Children’s book Award.

He is also a leading political activist in Iceland and a champion for the environment. Andri ran for president of Iceland 2016 and came in third.
