But the joy of being a single mother to Sigurd is challenged by a creeping uncertainty when her son begins to ask questions about his absent father. When she unexpectedly discovers the donor’s identity—a nearby successful game developer named Niels—curiosity leads her to meet him on the pretext of an interview. What begins as a calculated encounter gradually deepens into a genuine connection\, driving Edith to sink deeper into lies and endanger the fragile balance of the life she has built. \nSolomamma is a sensitive drama about identity and belonging\, providing a rich portrayal of how modern family ties extend beyond the purely biological. Director Janicke Askevold explores the ethical dilemmas surrounding anonymous sperm donation and modern motherhood. Lisa Loven Kongsli and Herbert Nordrum embody their roles perfectly\, bringing out the vibrant tension in their encounters. Curated by Birgir Thor Møller\, the selection of films at West Nordic Film Days reflects the current development and tendencies in West Nordic cinema as well as the diversity\, combining films by prolific\, prizewinning directors and upcoming filmmakers\, who all live in and tell their stories from very different parts of the region. \nOpening Night on Friday\, October 9 will include screenings of the Faroese feature film The Last Paradise on Earth (Seinasta paradís á jørð\, dir. Sakaris Stórá\, 2025)\, followed by the Icelandic short film Blaðberinn (Paperboy\, 2019\, dir. Ninna Pálmadóttir) and and the Greenlandic short film Oqaluttuap Akia (The Price of a Story\, dir. Lukáš Masner\, 2024). \nIn The Last Paradise on Earth\, a grieving young man desperately tries to hold together his fractured family and his own paradise in the Faroe Islands in a poignant and visually stunning small-town drama. In 2025 The Last Paradise on Earth premiered and became the first Faroese feature film ever to be nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize — an award it furthermore won. In Blaðberinn\, a small town paperboy has his world shaken when peers into his neighbor’s window and connects with a traumatized woman. Julia í Kálvalíð\, 2024). \nThe Greenlandic documentary feature Walls follows Ruth Mikaelsen Jerimiassen\, a woman who has been indefinitely incarcerated in Nuuk for attempted murder\, who is given an opportunity for redemption when her case is opened for review. In Blaðberinn\, when a lonely five-year-old girl senses her composer father is drowning in profound grief inside their isolated seaside home\, she turns to a magical mythical folk tale to try and heal his sorrow. Julia í Kálvalíð\, 2024). \nIn the Faroese feature Dreams by the Sea\, a sheltered teen trying to live by the dogma of her strictly religious parents befriends a rebellious newcomer\, and together they spend the summer nights dreaming of a better life. Valdimar Jóhannsson’s (Lamb) Dögun is a very brief\, yet intense short film depicting a father and his young child who simultaneously wake up in the dead of night\, deeply shaken after experiencing a terrifying\, shared bad dream. The award-winning short film Ivikkisartoq Kingulleq follows and portrays the 82-year-old Marie Josefsen\, an Inuk from South Greenland\, who is the last surviving specialist of the traditional craft of grass sewing. \nPurchase Tickets

Yrsa Roca Fannberg\, 2025)\, followed by the Faroese short film Halt um Meg (Hold Me\, 2025\, dir. Maria Winther Olsen) and the Greenlandic short film Always Moving (dir. Alberte Parnuuna\, 2026). \nIn the Icelandic documentary feature The Ground Beneath Our Feet\, a group of elderly people living together in a grand old building in Reykjavík reflect on their centuries of life\, interwoven through the meditative practice of their daily routines. The Geytin award-winning short film Halt um Meg explores the profound themes of grief\, intimacy\, and human connection within the backdrop of a nighttime conversation between two strangers in a bar.
