Scandinavia House presents Saturday Art Workshops for children ages 5 and up. This spring, art workshops for kids explore themes related to our exhibition Nordic Impressions. Each workshop begins with a brief visit to the Gallery, followed by an art activity. Workshops include “Warm and Fuzzy: Mobile Making” (March 16); “Cut it Out: Collage Art” (March 23); and “Bird is the Word: Claymations” (March 30).

In today’s workshop, kids will see and be inspired by the figurative paintings of Swedish artist Mamma Andersson — who starts new projects by collecting interesting photographs from books and magazines onto a storyboard — as well as the works of Danish artist Tal R, who uses collage as a technique in many of his works. After seeing the Gallery, kids will use collage to create visual stories by assembling paper cut-outs and pictures onto canvases, and then find creative ways to use leftover paper materials as part of the artwork.
