“Sometimes, 70-year-old girls just want to have fun” (Cineuropa) — this November, see the hit new film Ladies of Steel (Finland, 2020; dir. Pamela Tola) in New Nordic Cinema at Scandinavia House!

After hitting her husband on the head with a frying pan, 75-year-old Inkeri realizes she might have hit him a little too hard. When she goes on the lam with her two sisters Raili and Sylvi, their journey through Finland is filled with charming hitchhikers, memories, and sinful dancing. As Inkeri comes across her old university writings and finds Eino, a crush from her youth, she is reminded of her dreams that were later suppressed by a patriarchal marriage; and must make the biggest choice concerning the rest of her life, a choice between happiness and convention. Nominated for European Film Awards European Comedy, 2020 (91 min. In Finnish with English subtitles)

“A slightly demented relative of all the Bad Moms and Rough Nights, its mischievous side might revel in the grannies-gone-bad routine, but there is way too much heart, and pain, to just write this film off as pleasantly nasty…This film is not about the past, but the future. A bright one, too”—Cineuropa

Film screenings will take place as a 3 PM matinee and 7 PM evening showing.
