He finished his Master’s Degree in Jazz Guitar from Manhattan School of Music in 2003\, and has played at Rochester International Jazz Festival\, Trondheim JazzFest\, Faro International Guitar Festival \, Blue Note\, Birdland \,55 Bar\, Smalls\, Blues Alley\, and The Kennedy Center. He has released three albums as a leader: Twelve\, Release of Tension and Looking Ahead. He has also released the best-selling guitar method book Modern Jazz and Fusion Guitar on Hal/Leonard and is a featured artist for Collings Guitars\, Quilter Labs\, Eventide and Curt Mangan Strings. \nBassist Mike McGuirk grew up in Portland\, Oregon\, and received a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas\, where he studied with Jeff Bradetich. In 1997\, he won the International Society of Bassists jazz bass competition. In April 1995\, Arsim is a 24-year-old\, recently married student at the University of Pristina\, keeping his head down to gain a university degree in a time and place deeply hostile to Albanians. In a café he meets a young man named Miloš\, a Serb. DESCRIPTION:Visit the studio of Scandinavian folk artist and ASF Folk Art Fellow Pieper Bloomquist! Based in Grand Forks\, North Dakota\, Pieper studied Swedish Dalmålning (Kurbits) and Bonadsmålning\, and has been painting in traditional Scandinavian styles of folk art since 1993. Pieper enjoys utilizing elements from folk art traditions to tell modern stories\, incorporating the floral forms\, borders\, layout and perspective of the past to depict scenes that — while personal to her — portray universal human experiences and daily activities of growing up in the upper Midwest. She enjoys placing playful\, contemporary scenes in the context of traditional Swedish flower and scroll formations. \nIn this visit premiering on Saturday\, June 26\, Pieper will share the differences between various Scandinavian art forms\, revealing a bit of her painting process\, and experiences working as an artist (as well as an oncology nurse) during the pandemic. \nThe Studio Visit will premiere on this page at 2 PM ET on June 26 via YouTube and Facebook\, and remain available to stream here through July 3.
