DESCRIPTION:On March 30\, join us for a performance and celebration with New York-based Finnish singer-pianist Eeppi Ursin on the release of her new album\, My Finnish Soul! Bringing well-known Finnish traditional folk and rock classics to life with soul and jazz tones\, Ursin’s new album features songs such as Säkkijärven Polkka\, Myrskyn jälkeen\, Pohjois-Karjala and Moottoritie on kuuma performed with her delicate\, stripped-down and epically strong interpretations. \nA tribute to a major three-year period in Ursin’s musical career\, My Finnish Soul is inspired in part by the artist’s virtual Love Boat concert concept created after she moved to New York\, which became a hit particularly among expatriate Finns during the pandemic. In the beginning of 2022 Ursin was chosen as Performer of the Year by Finlandia Foundation National and embarked on a U.S. tour including 17 concert in 13 cities — taking her all the way to Alaska — and received American Scandinavian Society’s Cultural Grant of 2022. \nHer new album is based on songs requested by Love Boat audiences as well as concert favorites from the U.S. tour\, and is a must-have nostalgia album for any Finnish expat. \nTickets to this event must be purchased in advance online at the link above. \nThis program is co-hosted by Finlandia Foundation New York — Metropolitan Chapter. \n \nAbout Eeppi Ursin\nEeppi Ursin is a New York-based platinum-selling\, award-winning singer\, songwriter and pianist originally from Finland. Her stage presence combines warmth\, style\, humor and virtuosity. Her recordings and performances as a singer vary from pop\, jazz\, dance\, a cappella and children’s music. \nThroughout her career she has captivated audiences all around the world performing as a vocal soloist at prestigious venues with acclaimed artists such as trumpeter Leroy Jones and Spirit of New Orleans\, Vocal Ensemble Club For Five\, and UMO Jazz Orchestra\, to name a few. The series presented by Scandinavia House and Per Tengstrand welcomes audiences back to Victor Borge Hall beginning in October for another season of its popular performances. On March 7\, we’ll be discussing W. A Novel by Steve Sem-Sandberg\, who discussed the novel with us last September in a virtual book talk streaming here. \nConsidered the first modern drama and based on true events\, Georg Büchner’s play Woyzeck tells the story of a loyal soldier and survivor of the Napoleonic Wars who\, in a fit of jealous rage\, kills the woman he loves. The series presented by Scandinavia House and Per Tengstrand welcomes audiences back to Victor Borge Hall beginning in October for another season of its popular performances. Held monthly on Thursday evenings\, concerts will begin at 7:30 preceded by conversation by Tengstrand about the pieces and composer. \nIn tonight’s performance with Tengstrand accompanied by strings from Opus at Princeton University\, hear the crown jewel in Scandinavian classical music: Edvard Grieg’s beautiful piano concerto. \nTickets to this event must be purchased in advance online at the link above; concerts will take place in Victor Borge Hall.
