Kettle Corn New Music and Scandinavia House present up-and-coming piano trio Longleash in a program exploring the relationships between contemporary American and Scandinavian music.  The program includes works by modern-day Nordic masters Hans Abrahamsen (Traumlieder) and Kaija Saariaho (Light and Matter), alongside New York-based composer Scott Wollschleger’s Brontal Symmetry.

Guest violist Anne Lanzilotti joins the trio for works by Ingram Marshall and Anna Thorvaldsdottir.  Kettle corn and beverages are included with admission.

About Longleash

Longleash (violin, cello, and piano) is a group with a traditional instrumentation and a progressive identity. Inspired by music with unusual sonic beauty, an inventive streak, and a truthful cultural voice, Longleash extends a love of classical chamber musicianship to the interpretation of contemporary music, crafting performances that are both dynamic and thoughtfully refined. An “expert young trio” praised for its “subtle and meticulous musicianship” (Strad Magazine), Longleash has quickly earned a reputation in the US and abroad for innovative programming, artistic excellence, and new music advocacy.

Longleash balances a full performing schedule with commissioning and recording projects and the trio’s own summer festival, The Loretto Project (KY). Recent and upcoming concerts include appearances at EMPAC (Troy, NY), the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany (NYC), The Kaufman Center, the Center for New Music (CA), and the Green Music Center (CA). The trio takes its name from Operation Long Leash, a recently declassified CIA operation designed to disseminate the work of American avant-garde artists throughout Europe during the Cold War.

About Kettle Corn New Music

Kettle Corn New Music is about sharing music with friends. During our college years, the founders often played their favorite music for one another, sitting in their dorm rooms, passing around a big bag of kettle corn. They frequently found these listening sessions to be a rewarding alternative to more formal, traditional concerts, and we want to bring this experience to a public forum.

Kettle Corn New Music feels passionately that contemporary classical music of the highest quality can be shared in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It presents music drawn from a broad range of styles and aesthetic backgrounds in an atmosphere where it can be heard as both entertaining and thought-provoking. Kettle Corn New Music isn’t about a particular style or a group of composers. Rather, it’s an approach to listening that embraces music as both art and entertainment.
