As Helsinki is bursting with young energy and rebellion, two young writers determined to conquer the world, Inka and Juhana, fall madly in love. At the height of the love affair Inka starts to suspect that being madly in love may actually be driving Juhana mad. Directed by Alli Haapasalo (Finland, 2016).

About the director

Alli Haapasalo is a Finnish film director and screenwriter, as well as a former ASF Fellow. She received acclaim for writing and directing On Thin Ice, her thesis film for New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. This mercenary story won several awards in the United States and was nominated for Prix Europa in 2012. Other selected works include festival favorite IlonaThe Girl Who Had No Problems, fantastical narrative The Appointment, documentary short Dear Mom, Love James and drama Hurricane, Brooklyn.

Haapasalo holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree from Aalto University’s School of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design. Love and Fury is her feature debut, and she is currently in post-production with a feature documentary and in development with two feature narratives.

New Finnish Cinema

This fall, experience the best of new Finnish cinema at Scandinavia House as part of the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s yearlong celebration of Finland’s Centennial. Each film will be screened twice—Wednesday at 7 PM and Friday at 6:30 PM (with the exception of Born in Heinola). Tickets for individual films are $12 ($7 ASF Members) or you can purchase a Series Pass for all nine films for $45 ($25 ASF Members).
