Inspired by Scandinavia House’s exhibition Borrowed Time, children will explore the variety of ways humans see and make use of the natural world as well as how nature shapes the world’s cultures. The first session of the series will begin in the

gallery with conversation about the artwork on view and, in the weeks that follow, children will work with paint, craypas, collage, and other materials to record their impressions of the natural world.

ABOUT THE ART EDUCATORS

Dr. Amy Brook Snider chaired the Art and Design Education Department at Pratt Institute for 30 years while also consulting in arts education. As Chair, she received grants for a number of educational programs promoting art, poetry, and design. In 2012, she stepped down as Chair, teaching undergraduate and graduate students until January 2015 when she decided to concentrate on her work as an educational consultant. Her non-traditional approach to the profession is exemplified by the broad range of her interests, i.e., storytelling and children’s picture books, self-taught artists, and the integration of design in art education, to name a few.

Caitlin Reller received her B.F.A. in sculpture from the Herberger College of Fine Arts and Design in Tempe, Arizona. Upon graduation she received the Most Outstanding Sculpture Student Award. Reller obtained her Masters in Art and Design Education from Pratt Institute in December 2012. She is a co-founder of and teacher for the Small Hands Workshop, an affordable art program for young children in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband and children.
