About the playwright
Jonas Hassen Khemiri (b. 1978, Sweden) is the author of three novels and six plays. In 2004 his first novel, One Eye Red/Ett öga rött (2003), received the Borås Tidning Award for Best Literary Debut. His second novel, Montecore: The Silence of the Tiger/Montecore: En unik tiger (Knopf, 2011), won several literary awards including
the Swedish Radio Award for Best Novel of the Year. Khemiri’s works have been translated into more than fifteen languages and his plays have been performed by over 40 international companies. In 2011 Khemiri’s play INVASION! premiered in New York at Walkerspace and was awarded a Village Voice Obie Award for Playwriting.
About the director
Anna Zastrow (b. Wisconsin), neé Ellestad, was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Sweden, and has spent most of her adult life in NYC. Zastrow is a theater artist who has directed, taught, and performed all over the world. As a member of Bond Street Theatre, she co-directed Rohela’s Bride in Afghanistan (2011) and Women Say Enough in Haiti (2012), and she has also provided directorial consulting to the circus show Ghosts in Cambodia. Zastrow also directed last year’s SATC reading Twenty Minutes After Death/Død Mands Kvinde (Written by Thomas Markmann, Denmark, 2009). Other directing work in NYC
includes Dream/Play (Strindberg’s A Dream Play) with her company Loka Maer (2000) and assisting the production Circle with Yara Arts Group. Her acting roles include Lord Capulet and the Nurse in the Jean Cocteau Repertory’s Romeo & Juliet (2004), Helena in The Boarshead Theater’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Yvette in Mother Courage at the Classical Theatre of Harlem (2004), Frau Bergman in The Prospect Theater Company’s production of Spring Awakening (2002), and her solo clown performance Breathe…Or You Can Die! Zastrow is a graduate of Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
