SUMMARY:GRAPHITE AND CHARCOAL ON PAPER
DESCRIPTION:This adult workshop series offers a gentle introduction to the tactile qualities of materials such as paper\, pastel\, paint\, graphite\, and ink. Open to all levels\, including new students\, the series focuses on exploration\, play\, and the process of making rather than finished outcomes. Participants will experiment with a range of techniques across sessions\, including acrylic and watercolor painting\, pastel work\, ink practices\, drawing with graphite and charcoal\, and creating sculptural forms from paper\, while also engaging with relevant art history and contemporary art. Each class invites a meditative and attentive approach\, encouraging students to discover inspiration from both inner and outer worlds. Sessions conclude with supportive group reflections that honor each participant’s process and discoveries. As part of the experience\, students will also explore the 3rd floor gallery exhibition “Inside Voices\, Outside Light: Perspectives on West Nordic Art.” \nIn this course\, students will explore and experiment with using graphite pencils and charcoal on paper. \nThe series can be taken as a full progression or as individual\, standalone classes\, with participation limited to 12 students aged 20 and above. \nPurchase Tickets

Visual artist Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and fisherman Magnús (Sverrir Guðnason) were teenage sweethearts but have recently grown apart\, and Magnús has moved out of the house. As long as the newly estranged parents put on a good face\, the children—and their adorable sheepdog Panda (who won the prestigious Palme Dog award at Cannes)—seem to take the split in stride. SUMMARY:THE JENNY LIND BOWL: A SWEDISH NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Swedish National Day with us on June 6 with a tasting\, design and learning event based on the legendary Jenny Lind bowl! In this event with AO Glass\, Björk Cafe & Bistro and BonBon Candy\, participants will learn the history behind the design work inspired by “The Swedish Nightingale\,” one of the most famous opera singers of the 19th century. The event will be accompanied by Swedish drinks\, snacks and treats from Björk and BonBon. \nAll ticketholders will receive their own AO Glass bowl (retail $45)\, with a special engraving marking the day! \nWhen Rich Arentzen & Tove Ohlander at AO Glass purchased their giant hydraulic press from Fenton Glass Factory in West Virginia\, they were given an old metal mold to practice their technique of pressed glass. Unknowingly\, they had stumbled across a piece of Swedish-American operatic history—after discovering the opera singer’s name etched onto the mold\, they discovered that it had been created in the 1940s in her audience. Since then\, they went on to launch their own line of glass bowls designed on the historic mold. \nThis event will share the history and design work behind creating the bowls\, bringing together glass\, food\, music\, history\, and Swedish culture. It will also honor the significance of this year’s Swedish National Day\, as Sweden celebrates 250 years of American independence and the deep\, enduring ties between Sweden and the United States—including those of the famed “Swedish Nightingale\,” whose 1850-52 tour of America launched her worldwide fame while introducing Nordic music traditions to the U.S. and shaping the future of American entertainment. \nTreats will include food and drinks from Björk and treats from BonBon—New York’s own Swedish candy maker\, who will introduce two new Moomin candy variations!
