Our popular Summer Jazz Series returns to Scandinavia House! This summer we’re presenting performances from some of Scandinavia’s most talented young jazz musicians, composers, and singers on Thursday evenings, June 7 through July 19. Join us for a reception on the Volvo Hall terrace starting at 6:30 PM, followed by the concert at 7 PM.

Oskar Stenmark Quartet brings the important, ancient music traditions of Gärdebyn, Dalecarlia to Scandinavia House with a performance of “In My Grandmother’s Footsteps.” Stenmark, a flugelhorn player, is joined by bass player Kaisa Mäensivu, drummer Kush Abadey, and pianist Billy Test to perform polskor, waltzes, and other songs mixed with a contemporary expression and sounds from New York.

About the Musicians

Oskar Stenmark, a flugelhorn player, is the tenth generation in his family to pass on this tradition, thanks to his grandmother Elsi Börjes, who grew up in Gärdebyn and toured with fiddlers starting in 1956. The Quartet now revives this tradition and has toured to Minneapolis, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston.
