Screened in celebration of Lithuanian Independence Day, the compelling documentary Rūta follows the childhood and rise to fame of one of Lithuania’s most accomplished athletes, swimmer Rūta Meilutytė, from her first strokes in a swimming pool to winning the Olympic gold and beyond. Examining her career developments and personal life, the film tells the story of a 15-year-old girl who becomes an international star overnight, and the ways that this affects her.

Directed by Rokas Darulis and Ronaldas Buožis (Lithuania, 2018). Presented with the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York and is supported by Lithuanian Culture Institute.
