Learn about Nordic art in this hands-on, in-person drawing course pairing brief informal lectures on celebrated Nordic artists with guided transcription and drawing exercises. Each 2.5-hour session will begin with a 30-minute artist overview, followed by demonstrations and 1.5 hours of drawing directly from works using graphite, charcoal, ink, or colored pencils. This week, we’ll turn our focus to Finland.
This adult art workshop will deepen participants’ familiarity with key Scandinavian artists and art movements from 5 countries. Weekly classes can be taken individually or as a complete group to study historic and contemporary Scandinavian approaches to line, tone, composition, and texture.
This workshop is part of a 6-session series; you can choose between single tickets or a ticket bundle. All materials are provided. No prior experience is required. (18+)
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Charity Baker is an artist based in NYC. After a trip to Sweden in 2023 she has studied Scandinavian art, landscapes and culture. Travel across the various Nordic countries and climates has shaped her interest in extreme light, darkness, and solitude in nature. Her work explores the human desire for safety and stimulation within these environments. While many large scale and immersive works are made with oil paint, she also creates smaller, intimate pieces that offer a quieter reflection on the same themes.
Charity graduated from an MFA painting program at the New York Studio School in 2019, and has since taught there an adjunct professor, as well as online for the Seattle Artist League, teaching drawing, painting and museum studies. Her work was recently represented by Nancy Margolis Gallery and resides in collections worldwide.
