In this sequel to the hit Norwegian thriller The Wave (2015), geologist Kristian Elkjord finds himself traumatized by the deaths of that prior catastrophe, now separated from his wife Ilbe and children and living as a recluse. But he’s once again spurred back into action when he sees footage of a colleague’s death in a highway tunnel outside Oslo, and suspects that a major seismic event might be imminent.As he races to warn the authorities, he finds that even his status as a national hero fails to convince them that the city is in danger — and also fails to convince his own family. And as more and more ominous events show that disaster is swiftly approaching, he must track down his family and use any means necessary to ensure their safety. New Nordic Cinema presents some of the best new films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Running in coordination with our exhibition Nordic Impressions, this series showcases the rich diversity and global character of Nordic art.

About the Director

John Andreas Andersen (b. 1971) is one of Norway’s most respected and prolific cinematographers, with numerous awards.

A graduate of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, Andersen has been a DoP on films such as A Conspiracy of Faith (2016) and Headhunters (2011), and co-directed the hit family film Captain Sabertooth and the Treasure of Lama Rama (2014) as well as the last two episodes of TV success Occupied (2015).

New Nordic Cinema 2019

This spring, in coordination with our ongoing exhibition Nordic Impressions: Contemporary Art from Åland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, catch some of the best new films showcasing the diversity and global character of Nordic cinema. All films screen Wednesdays at 7 PM and Fridays at 6:30 PM.
