Beloved Finnish-American vocalist, pianist, and songwriter Eeppi Ursin celebrates the release of her new album My Finnish Soul vol. 2 at Scandinavia House on January 14th!
Based in New York City, Ursin continues her musical journey into Finnish nostalgia with a highly anticipated second volume of Finnish classics, presented through intimate and beautifully stripped-down vocal and piano arrangements. Responding to audience requests, the album features interpretations of timeless favorites including Ievan polkka, Sininen ja valkoinen, and Juokse sinä humma.
The album also includes three original compositions by the award-winning songwriter, inspired by her experiences as an expatriate Finn. Sisu Song reflects the well-known Finnish concept of sisu—determination, resilience, and inner strength. RMS Carpathia, named after one of the great ships that carried immigrants across the Atlantic, pays tribute to the millions of people who arrived at Ellis Island in search of better lives and new opportunities.
Ursin moved to New York in 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, following in the footsteps of her ancestors, who also emigrated to the United States in the early 1900s. Since then, she has toured extensively throughout North America, performing for Finnish communities and audiences interested in Nordic music, culture, and heritage.
“During my years as an expat Finn, I’ve met many people with Finnish roots who are incredibly proud of their heritage,” Ursin says. “I feel both honored and responsible for bringing Finnish nostalgia—with a modern twist—to Finnish communities across the United States and around the world. My own ancestors came to the U.S. in the early 1900s, and their stories have fascinated me and inspired this album.”
Following the album’s release, Ursin will tour throughout the United States and Finland through spring 2027. The tour began in Finland last summer and continued with performances at Nordic-themed festivals and events in Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Maine, and Florida.
