About Jens Elvekjær:
Jens Elvekjær has won top prizes in some of Europe’s most prestigious international competitions, including 1st prize at the Brahms Piano Competition, Austria; 2nd prize at the Scandinavian Piano Competition; and 2nd prize at the Ferrol Piano Competition, Spain.
Elvekjær represented Denmark at the First Scandinavian Piano Festival and has performed widely across Europe, Asia, and North America in such venues as the National Gallery, Washington, D.C.; Copenhagen’s Tivoli Concert Hall; Tokyo’s Musashino Hall; Amsterdam’s Beurs van Berlage, the Austrian National Library in Vienna; the Casals Festival, Prades, France; Norway’s Bergen and Trondheim Festivals; the Umeå Kammermusik Festival in Sweden; and the Korsholm and Kuhmo Festivals in Finland.
He has performed as a soloist with all the major Danish orchestras and many prominent orchestras in Europe including the Danish National Orchestra; the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra (Germany), the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen, l’Orchestre Syrinx (France), among others. He has toured in Europe as a soloist with Danish and German orchestras, and performed as a soloist with the Danish National Orchestra in Denmark and Sweden in 2008.
Elvekjær’s début CD featured music by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and César Franck and was nominated in 2007 for Best Solo Album at the Danish Music Awards. Politiken hailed it as “an extraordinary release . . . performances radiant with talent.”
Elvekjær studied in Århus, Denmark; Cologne, Germany; and in the Vienna Conservatory and Salzburg Mozarteum, Austria. His teachers included John Damgaard, K.H. Kämmerling, Leonid Brumberg, Lazar Berman, Ferenc Rados, and the Alban Berg Quartett.
