Our popular Summer Jazz Series returns to Scandinavia House! This summer we’re presenting performances from some of Scandinavia’s most talented young jazz musicians, composers, and singers from June 20 through July 11. Join us for a reception on the Volvo Hall terrace starting at 7 PM, followed by the concert at 7:30 PM.
Swedish reedplayer Thomas Backman joins us on saxophone and clarinet with Josefine Lindstrand (keyboard, vocals), Oskar Schönning (bass, guitar), and Julia Schabbauer (drums, vocals), with original compositions that blend elements of bebop and free jazz with hip hop, indie pop, and chamber music for a pioneering and unique take on the jazz genre. On this evening, they’ll be performing selections from Backman’s critically acclaimed debut album Did You Have A Good Day, David?.
“The Swedish quartet’s mixture of slow-burn yearning widescreen chamber pop with elements of jazz and electronica deserves wider attention.”—London Jazz News
“A personal music that breaks the imagination of traditional improvisation without templates or copying something else… Jazz for a new generation.” –Gefle Dagblad
This concert has been made possible through the generous support of SWEA New Jersey and the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.
