But when Mihkel finds himself instead coerced into swallowing 70 drug capsules before his ferry ride into Iceland, things take a more serious turn when he lands in the new country and finds himself unable to pass the drugs. About the Director
Ari Alexander Ergis Magnússon was born in 1968 in Reykjavik, Iceland. His father who was an Icelandic playwright, film and theatre director who graduated from legendary film school VGIK and his mother is a Siberian-Yakutian actress and visual artist who graduated from the Moscow acting school GITIS. His parents moved to Reykjavik, Iceland from Moscow in 1966 after his father lost faith in the utopian dream of the USSR.
Magnússon has lived in Aarhus, Denmark and studied in Paris at the Sorbonne. He later earned a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons Paris School of Art and Design. Since then he has exhibited his paintings, installations and video work in galleries in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, England, USA, China, Argentina, Russia and Siberia.
In recent years, Magnússon has worked on documentary films in a series called The Cultural Thriller Movie Series, which have been shown around the world. He has received several awards and was nominated to the Nordic Council Film Prize in 2005 for his documentary Screaming Masterpiece, an international film festival darling led by Björk and Sigur Rós.

This spring, in coordination with our ongoing exhibition Nordic Impressions: Contemporary Art from Åland, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, catch some of the best new films showcasing the diversity and global character of Nordic cinema. All films screen Wednesdays at 7 PM and Fridays at 6:30 PM.
