Gorilla

Written by Rhea Leman (U.S.A,/Denmark, 2009). Five top male managers meet in their company’s country lodge, to complete what they want to believe to be a harmless series of weekend workshops focusing on team building and gender related issues run by the company’s female coach.

Instead, they are confronted with their team’s poor fiscal results and even though they blame the global financial tsunami for their weak performance, they are slowly forced to see the greed and personal ambitions that have driven some of them to this devastating dead end in their career and private lives.

About the playwright:

Rhea Leman (b. 1954, New York) is a Danish-American playwright, director, and choreographer. Leman was born and raised in New York and educated at the Boston Conservatory of Music (B.F.A) and Lesley University (M.F.A, stage and screen). In Boston she founded the Directions Dance Company together with Cher Geurtze, where she had the chance to develop her own personal style – a text-based dance form, where words and body are equally combined. In 1981 she moved to Denmark, where she continued investigating physical theater through her co-founded company The Ladies, which in 1985 changed its name to Teater Tango.

Rhea Leman has directed and produced more than twenty original plays, including: Venedig, Puzzles in Night-Lights, and Endelig Alene. In 1998 she shut down Teater Tango and since then has been directing and writing for television, radio, and the theater. The Cultural Minister appointed her as Chairman for The Danish Theater, Art & Dance Council (2003-07). Gorilla was one of the two finalists in the NYC playwriting competition NEW WORKS OF MERIT PLAYWRITING CONTEST in 2010. Five of her recent plays will be produced in Denmark during the next theater season, including Hitler on the Roof, The Boots of Stalin, and Gorilla, among others.
