VALENTINE’S DAY AT SCANDINAVIA HOUSE

Celebrate Valentine’s Day (Alla Hjärtans Dag/Valentinsdag) Nordic-style at Scandinavia House with a film events, shopping, and a “feast for two” dining experience at Björk Café & Bistro the week of February 14! ASF Members receive discounts on all events (read more about ASF Membership here).

The week will kick off on Monday, February 12 at 6 PM with the world premiere of the Swedish-American documentary HÅKAN – A Documentary about Chocolate, Creativity, and Passion, an intimate portrait of the legendary chocolatier Håkan Mårtensson, with Björk Cafe & Bistro. *THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT.* The screening of director Charlie Bennet’s film exploring Mårtensson’s experiences building HÅKAN Chocolatier during the pandemic will be followed by a chocolate tasting and conversation with Björk Cafe’s Ulrika Bengtsson, followed by a reception with Nordic delights and the opportunity to purchase Håkan’s crafted chocolates at a discounted rate. And on Valentine’s Day, February 14, enjoy a Nordic-themed celebration with dinner and a movie! From 5:30-7:30 PM, a “Feast for Two at Björk Café & Bistro takes visitors on a Scandinavian taste journey with dishes including Nordic shrimp, salmon, cod, smørrebrød, meatballs, and the world-famous Princess Cake ($170 for two; includes mimosa). At 7 PM, we’ll be screening award-winning director Aki Kaurismäki’Fallen Leaves, a timeless, hopeful, and distinctly Finnish love story about two lonely souls in present-day Helsinki, Ansa (Alma Pöysti) and Holappa (Jussi Vatanen), whose meeting at a karaoke bar is followed by numerous hurdles from mistaken addresses to alcoholism to a stray dog in an “almost feelgood romance” and “a droll delight” (The Guardian). Film ticketholders will also have the opportunity to purchase a Graze box featuring treats like cheese, charcuterie and dips as well as individual prosecco bottles from Björk.

Now through Valentine’s Day, stop by the Shop at Scandinavia House for special items for your loved ones (or yourself)! Featured items include treats from chocolatier Fritz Knipschildt of Denmark; pearl creations from the Swedish jewelry design duo In2Design; elegant sweaters from Oleana of Norway; fanciful wool and silk scarves from Christa Louise of Denmark; illuminating and modern crystal from Orrefors of Sweden; lovebird iron candleholders from Bengt and Lotta of Sweden; and the whimsical Eva face vases from master ceramists Bjorn Wiinblad of Denmark. The Shop is open Tue-Sat, 10 AM-5 PM & Wed, 10 AM-7 PM.
