Join us on October 8 for an evening with Danish pianist and former ASF Fellow Ruben Høgh! With a strong focus on sonic experimentation and commitment to artistic innovation, Høgh moves freely between European classical traditions and the raw energy of New York’s Downtown scene.

Particularly drawn to the resonating textures and sonic landscapes of post-rock and inspired by composers like Julia Wolfe, John Adams, Steve Reich, Olivier Messiaen and Dmitri Shostakovich, he explores new forms of pianism that both challenge and build on conventions and create immersive concert experiences where the distance between stage and audience dissolves. This includes the use of extended techniques, prepared piano, as well as electronic textures and software.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ruben Høgh is a prizewinning Danish pianist and experimental performer and Fulbright alum, currently based in New York City.

Ruben recently finished three years of studies at Manhattan School of Music (2023–26) in New York, including the school’s Contemporary Performance Program, where he studied with leading new music figures and pianists Margaret Kampmeier and Anthony de Mare. He previously graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Music (2016–23), where he studied with Amalie Malling and Marianna Shirinyan.

In both 2024 and 2025 he performed at Bang on a Can’s festival LOUD Weekend at MASS MoCA in North Adams, working directly with prominent American composers such as Meredith Monk, Ted Hearne and Mathew Rosenblum. His special focus on collaborations with living composers have led to numerous premieres in Denmark, Norway, and the US.

Additionally, he is a recipient of the prestigious Danish Léonie Sonnings Talent Prize thanks to Scandinavia’s Victor Borge Music Scholarship, as well as a former fellow of American-Scandinavian Foundation (2025–26) and Fulbright Scholar (2023–25)
