In this remake of the 1972 Norwegian comedy classic, saleswoman Ingrid and children’s book illustrator Olav are unable to afford their own home, and are frustrated to instead have to live with Olav’s meddlesome mother. Until one day fate knocks at the door with some unexpected news: Ingrid has just inherited a small house, located in a prime location, left to her by an aunt she’s never met.
Thrilled with their luck, the couple relocate with plans to renovate the house, engaging the services of a local eco-architect to turn it into their dream home. But nothing goes as planned, and when a series disasters ensue involving the architect and his colorful crew — as well as the bank and authorities — Ingrid and Olav discover that their dream may need much more work than they’d originally planned.
Slapstick and witty, Opportunity Knocks is a comedy about renovations – both material and emotional – and what might happen when ambitions outrun ability. Directed by Arild Fröhlich (Norway, 2018).
