Join us this fall for the festival West Nordic Film Days, a celebration of cinema from Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands! Screenings take place in Victor Borge Hall from October 9-11 and will include a range of acclaimed recent feature films, documentaries and shorts. Curated by Birgir Thor Møller, the selection of films at West Nordic Film Days reflects the current development and tendencies in West Nordic cinema as well as the diversity, combining films by prolific, prizewinning directors and upcoming filmmakers, who all live in and tell their stories from very different parts of the region.

The opening session on Saturday, October 10 will include screenings of the Faroese feature film Dreams by the Sea (Dreymar við havið, dir. Sakaris Stórá, 2017), followed by the Icelandic short film Dögun (Dawn, 2012, dir. Valdimar Jóhannsson) and the Greenlandic short film The Last Grass Seamstress (Ivikkisartoq Kingulleq, dir. Julia í Kálvalíð, 2024).

In the Faroese feature Dreams by the Sea, a sheltered teen trying to live by the dogma of her strictly religious parents befriends a rebellious newcomer, and together they spend the summer nights dreaming of a better life. Valdimar Jóhannsson’s (Lamb) Dögun is a very brief, yet intense short film depicting a father and his young child who simultaneously wake up in the dead of night, deeply shaken after experiencing a terrifying, shared bad dream. The award-winning short film Ivikkisartoq Kingulleq follows and portrays the 82-year-old Marie Josefsen, an Inuk from South Greenland, who is the last surviving specialist of the traditional craft of grass sewing.
